Kanji for God

The Origin of God in Kanji Symbol

The character for “god” is a combination of the kanji Symbol “示”, which represents the shape of an altar for ancestral worship, and “申”, which depicts the shape of an outstretched bolt of lightning.

◆神

Hiragana Reading (Onyomi): Shin, Jin

Hiragana Reading (Kunyomi): Kami, Kan, Kou

Stroke order of the Kanji Symbol for God

The first stroke of the “ネ” in “神” should be written slightly to the right, and the second stroke should be written slightly up to the right.

For “申” on the right side, squish the vertical stroke of “日” inward, and finish the ninth and final stroke straight down.
